Teuscher

On a recent junket to Stanford Shopping Center I stopped by Teuscher chocolates and Sprinkles cupcakes.

First, my review of Teuscher.

The Teusher shop is packed to the gills with toyish decorations. The sort of candy shop kids dream about. It was so much a kiddy shop that I felt a tad embarrassed going in by myself. I made sure my 4 year old was near me and chose the chocolates “for her”. Ok, she got one. But c’mon, each of the teesny weensy chocolates cost about $2. She would be just as happy with one of the free sugar packets from a restaurant.

Here’s a photo of her looking into the shop and me wearing my brand-new Google Android tee (birthday present from the hubby):

…and inside having chosen 4 chocolates (over $8!).

The verdict? Very creamy… No bitterness at all, not even in the dark chocolate truffle. Maybe so creamy tasting that it ended up on the bland side — a bit too bland for my tastes. But since the chocolates seem to be marketed toward kids I guess that’s a good thing.

I also tried out one of their small chocolate bars, the 66%. Again, the dark chocolate had a nice, creamy-ish flavor. It was lacking any complexity in the after-taste, although when I first bit into it there was a nice dark chocolate-y taste.

So I would say this is a very fun shop to visit with your kid. But once inside, pray. You wouldn’t want your kid to call you a Scrooge, but the tiny chocolates are $2 each and there’s lots and lots of fun-looking $8 chocolate bars.
